Television the drug of a nation – what’s on the BOX with Michael Green
Take a walk one day down Marine Parade, past Eastbourne Pier and the Chippy and look out to the waters edge, you may well see a Man working fervently on a painting.
It might not be a canvas that he’s painting, it might be an old PC, a car windscreen, a shop mannequin, a bit of drift wood, a crate, an old camera,a powder puff, or even a television set… Wherever he is painting he captures the angles and adjusts so that so looking straight on it still looks like (barring the content) a classic painting.
Perhaps you may stop , look down, you may start to read the back of his t-shirt and decide to go closer.
You may go down and look at what hes doing, he may look up and then back to his work, you may ask a question, he may reply, you might not like the reply but you will still stand and watch and ask more questions. He may hand you a card or two, question you back or just tell you to fuck off.. you might be offended, you might be enlightened, either way, take the card go home and follow the lead he has given you….Its time to open your mind.
“The essence of capitalism is to turn nature into commodities and commodities into capital. The live green earth is transformed into dead gold bricks, with luxury items for the few and toxic slag heaps for the many. The glittering mansion overlooks a vast sprawl of shanty towns, wherein a desperate, demoralized humanity is kept in line with drugs, television, and armed force.” ― Michael Parenti, Against Empire
To use Televisions, and PC Monitors to raise awareness of the gross misconduct of monetised society is the nemesis of advertising, where no longer do we regard people as Sheep and TV the shepherd but rather to use the TV screen symbolically and convey a message of awakening and enlightenment.
Unlike any so called divine enlightenment, awareness of the nature of oppression provides no “Sinday” heavenly joy, at worst the hope is awareness will create resistance to the Corporate/State/Political/Financial machine, and at best a drive to support engage and be part of the change for a better future.
The Art, the images speak from themselves, take some time, read whats “ON THE BOX” . When Timothy Leary coined the phrase “Turn on, tune in, drop out” at the Human Be-In in 1966, seen ever since in the media as an all time counterculture-era statement about getting “high” and dropping out of society, he was actually referring to was creating something of value something new, essentially “dropping in” to society.
The television, the corporations, the advertising media mogul that make money for there elitist empires and pyramid power companies have conditioned you through television, to drop out.
Television is the drug of the nation, and drugs make subversive people submissive. turn it off and get socially engaged in real change.
Its time to “drop in”…
